Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Inspired by a folk art tradition, the memory jugs mark a return to a childhood practice of collecting. Rusted, worn or broken, each found object comes with its own story. Whether discovered on the street, in a playground, burnt remnants found in an oven, or kept as mementos of a loved one who has passed away, they are transformed when arranged together.
The process of stitching — which provides structure to the jug form — serves as a marker of time. The imperfection in technique allows each stitch to remain visible. The method of construction is clear, valuing the handmade and the beauty found in failure.
The face jugs are an extension of a previous project which consists of dozens of fabric masks. Quickly made, they are playful and improvisational.
