Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My mixed media sculptures and wall works are hybrid forms. With them, I explore dynamics of multiplicity and instability related to the body, queerness, and digital culture. These questions inform my approach to abstraction and material accumulation.

The sculptures combine photo-printed fabrics and airbrush painting with found materials and metal armatures. I manipulate saturated, commercial plastics and textiles with methods that blur their well-defined qualities. The resulting works suggest digestion and transition. Airbrush gradients soften meeting points. Photographs disintegrate through the mis-use of digital editing tools.

The work evolves with a process of layered response, considering how each addition relates to and modifies another. They don’t represent the body, but they take up space in a similar way. Sculptures lean and reach; almost-recognizable objects sag in spandex sacks; their fabric is supple, bright surfaces sometimes grimy with previous touch.
