Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My work questions the body's relationship to the environment through both a personal and historical inquiry. Rendering images of surreal and haunting landscapes occupied by female forms, I question how nature can be known through embodiment or projected upon as a stage or set. These images aim to challenge the role of women's bodies in relation to the natural world, mytho-poetics, animism, and notions of control. My most recent body of work depicts the North Eastern marshland I grew up on. These paintings depict the same unchanged marshland in four different tidal fluctuations while figures cycle through the landscape suggesting multiple time scales collapsing and operating together.
