Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

To make my sculptures, I use traditional silversmithing techniques combined with hand-building in clay. My father is a potter and I grew up immersed in clay and other craft modalities. Because of my background as a silversmith, I enjoy blending the dual arts of jewelry and sculpture. Some sculptures hold jewelry that can be removed and worn, others appear as large pieces of jewelry that adorn a wall or shelf.

I am inspired by the landscapes of the Sonoran Desert and the Sea of Cortez area where I was born, as well as art made in this region across time. By calling attention to the singularity of a found rock or shell, enlarging it, and decorating it, I aim to show the humble beauty of my desert home. I want to engage in the dialogue of southwestern art: it’s tropes and truths and share my own desert story.
