Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
My work addresses concepts of identity and reality by contemplating the influence societal institutions have on the way we think. I believe that many institutions teach us to believe there is a right and wrong way to exist, which is heavily rooted in anti-blackness. This has forced many black children to toughen up at a young age, missing out on many experiences that other children were allowed to exist within. I explore nostalgia and cuteness to hold onto childlike feelings in order to combat the lost years of ignorance as a result of growing up too quickly. I like to think of this as an alternate timeline where children of color are without stereotypes, blame, and violence. Through the lens of Afrofuturism, I want to place the Black experience at the forefront of my thought process by implementing my own lived experience as well as the experiences of those who look like me. I use clay as a medium to take on the role of Creator of these fantasies to critique the culture I find myself participating in.
