Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

Janiece Maddox is a ceramic artist currently based in Chicago, IL. She was born in 1998 into a multiracial family deeply rooted in religion, sharing meals, and gossip. Her work addresses concepts of identity and reality by contemplating the influence societal institutions have on the way we think. Through the lens of Afrofuturism, she wants to place the Black experience at the forefront of this thought process. She uses symbolic and nostalgic imagery to conceptualize the liminal space between this world and the next.
