Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My artwork explores a vision of the otherworldly––integrating the observable world with the imagined. My drawings often begin with spontaneous mark-making and oscillate between haphazard line-work and conscious expressions. Often, I allow intuition to guide my hand––letting go of my analytical impulse to yield to the innate, visceral self.

My most recent work connects with the visual language of illuminated manuscripts and Persian miniature painting, merging human and natural realities with sacred geometries. Building off the meta-rectangular compositions in Persian miniatures, I render iterative motifs and ornamental decorations with a free hand. I also draw inspiration from medieval depictions of nature, antiquated scientific diagrams of the heavenly bodies, decorative art, and animation. My drawings embrace the world as a grand entanglement.
