Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I am orchestrating belonging through beauty-making rituals that refute ideas of authenticity placed on Indigenous artists by external authority. By reorganizing my understanding of identity through Haida storytelling and the vivid colors of Mexican culture, I am restoring balance from an inherited burden of assimilation. I use color and form to describe the cultural union of two separate diasporic heritages that I embody. I create layered and colorful luminescence, complexity, transparency, expressive mark-making, and abstraction to work through cultural disruption, seizure of identity, loss of language, and the responsibility to create connection in community for future generations.
