Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
My work tracks an attentiveness to how we perceive our bodies in relation to our surroundings and how we reconcile images to our physicality. Through tracing, cutting, painting and assembling, I make objects that sometimes rest on the wall and sometimes occupy the floor. Conflating these modes of depiction and construction mirrors the slipperiness of locating oneself through two parallel registers of experience: sensing the body as an object, and presenting a body in social space.
The work begins with a performative drawing practice. Resting my weight on the floor, I trace myself holding various poses, onto paper or canvas. I regard this process as observational drawing; one that favors the sense of touch rather than sight. Reflecting on the shapes from above, I consider how I can orient them to emphasize emotive gestures, or suggest spatial relationships. While the traced forms delineate an area, the figure’s lack of completion leaves its orientation ambiguous and plays up the body’s thing-ness.
Ultimately, I seek to make concrete connections between tactile, visual and spatial realms in order to break conditioned habits of interpretation and cultivate authentic perceptual attention.
