Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

How to picture a home?  How to see a body?  In parts.  I reuse the parts, recombining and gaining strategies for depicting them.  The parts become more familiar but their combinations less.

Recent paintings depict couches, car doors, mug handles, all closely cropped.   They also involve a body reflected in a car door, the handle intersecting the leg; reflections and graphics on the bodies of mugs; and painting on couches.  Trial and error through drawings and test canvases recast my initial impulse toward the (pedestrian) subjects; the painting becomes a response to its predecessors, and the subject evolves in conjunction.
