Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I use figurative painting, portraiture, and material study to investigate concepts of contemporary Americana; exploring how land and the built environment shape iterations of the self. With a primary focus on representations of the figure in acrylic and oil, I paint dream-like narratives, interlacing moments between individuals and the spaces that inform experience. Texture, layers, ritual, and decay are central to my work.

The collection of content is significant to how I paint the figure. Technology, the information era, and pop culture appear throughout my work in reference to ubiquitous materials, objects, fashion brands, and food items. With this visual ideology of daily encounters, used to render the figure in space, I elevate specific objects and cultural currents to demonstrate the ways we interact, how we inhabit space, and the rituals we perform with materials and objects.
