Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

Bio
CJ Matherne is an artist whose work examines the fragility of human structure in
the face of environmental volatility. Growing up in Houma, Louisiana, and Miami, Florida, CJ
experienced the vulnerability of these places to sinking coastlines, violent storms, and a culture
of stubborn denial. His paintings, drawings, and sculptures seek to capture the erosion of stability while
reimagining the fragments that remain as harbingers of adaptation and fortresses of hope. CJ
currently lives and works in New York’s Hudson Valley. He has an MFA from Milton Avery
Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College (2013) and a BFA from The School of The Art
Institute of Chicago (2006).
