The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

Maya Kabat was born in Portland, Oregon in 1971. She received a BA from Oberlin College in 1993 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of California, Davis, in 2000. She was a founding member of the artist-run gallery, Mercury Twenty, in Oakland, California, and served as president on the Oakland Art Murmur Board of Directors in 2011-2013. In 2016 she attended The London Intensive, a residency sponsored by the Camden Arts Centre in London, England, which culminated in an exhibition at the museum. In 2018 she attended the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation Artist Residency in New Berlin, New York. In 2022 she attended the Gambrell Gallery Artist Residency in Ashland, Oregon which culminated in an exhibition at the gallery. This year she will have her first solo exhibition with Vielmetter Gallery in Los Angeles, California. 

Notable public commissions and collections include Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, California, Cisco Systems, Palo Alto, California, Stanford Hospitals, Palo Alto, California and the Neiman Marcus Collection, St. Louis, Missouri, Short Hills, New Jersey, and Dallas, Texas. In 2018 she completed a large commission for the Kaiser Center in Oakland, California that was permanently installed in the main lobby. In 2021 she completed her largest commission to date for the lobby of the Kaiser Permanente, Berkeley Medical Offices in Berkeley, California. 

Her studio is located in Oakland, California at The Dome, workspaces established in 1976 by the artists Anne and Peter Voulkos.
