Artist Registry


The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

RESUME

Haley Mellin is a painter and conservationist based in San Francisco, California. She founded a nonprofit initiative, Art into Acres, in 2018 to support permanent land conservation on behalf of artists and institutions. The initiative has supported approximately 32 million acres of permanent land conservation with a focus on key biodiversity areas and locally-led community conservation efforts. Mellin currently supports the first carbon calculations and reduction strategies for studios and institutions through a Teiger Foundation grant.

Mellin co-founded the following art and climate engagements: Artists Commit, Art + Climate Action, Conserve.org, and the MOCA Environmental Council. She received a Ph.D. in Visual Culture and Education from New York University, a B.A. from U.C. Berkeley and attended the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program.

Mellin is the recipient of a New Museum Rhizome grant (2012), Teiger Foundation Grants (2022, 2023) and will be in residence for the Max Beckmann Distinguished Visitorship with the American Academy and the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin (2023). Solo and group exhibitions include Giovanni's Room, Los Angeles (2023), Tennis Elbow, New York (2022), The Journal, New York (2020), Alexander Berggruen, New York (2020), F Houston, Texas (2020), Shoulder, Los Angeles (2018), MoMA Ps1, New York (2016), Bischoff Projects in Frankfurt, Germany (2016), Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Belgium (2015), and Museo Pino Pascali, Italy (2104).
