RESUME

Farima Fooladi was born in Tehran, Iran. She is living in the United States creating paintings in her Studio at the Box13 ArtSpace in Houston, Texas. She is a full-time lecturer at Sam Houston State University. Farima completed her MFA in Painting and Drawing at the Penn State University, College of Art and Architecture where she taught Drawing and painting for three years before moving to Houston, TX. Her works include commentary on imagery, themes, symbols, and stories from Iranian visual and literature. Her recent research topic has been collective trauma and its long effect on cultures. She is fascinated by the lasting impact of collective trauma caused by Invasion, Migration, and displacement.

Her work is about the blurry view behind matte windows, and confused swimming pools. She creates large landscape paintings which she calls Idealized Landscape, a term borrowed from Chinese landscape painting tradition. Her paintings are her circumstances.

Farima’s eighth solo show "A Moveable Feast" opened on January, 15th, 2022 at Smack Mellon in Brooklyn, NYC. Her recent works, depict spaces using memory, compressing architecture and landscape from her upbringing in post-revolutionary Iran with those that surrounded her as an adult after emigrating to the United States. These paintings propose a progression of time when one can be certain that more memories will accrue and therefore increase the spatial depth. As Fooladi’s frames continue to expand, the world becomes bigger, more chaotic, and more nuanced through the palimpsests left within the edifice of her memory.
