Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

About Russell Steinert
Russell Steinert was born in Boston, Massachusetts and grew up on Boston's North Shore in the
town of Manchester-by-the-Sea. He began making visual art in the 1980s while a student at Brown
University in Providence, Rhode Island. After college, he moved to Oakland, California to attend
U.C. Berkeley's M.F.A program and began exhibiting his early work at San Francisco's Gallery Paule
Anglim in 1985.
After a summer at the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture in Maine in 1984, Russell moved
to New York City to set up a studio, while working jobs in the New York's art world as an art handler
and installer through the early 1990s. He was part of the wave of young visual artists moving to
Brooklyn's Greenpoint/Williamsburg area in the late 1980s and early 1990s and was an active
participant in that area's ongoing development as a vibrant center for art and design. Beginning in
2020, he opened a new studio in Sharon, Connecticut.
