Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My work is a response to the tools and technology I use in my day job as a web developer — one that involves blending mediums through a process of moving materials through digital and physical spaces in a way that goes against their intended use. For me, it feels like a game of telephone — what happens to an image and its potential for meaning as it's cycled through different intermediary sources? What kinds of exciting experiences or objects will get spit out? I’m particularly interested in doing this with information that is already being mediated itself through some sort of communication device (live sporting events, websites, movies, history books, etc.) to make something that feels familiar, but is just off enough to encourage a slower, extended looking experience.
