Ungrowing
This film is a poetic attempt to cut into the personal wounds left behind after the loss of my mums own mother. Exposing the vulnerability of the 'mother figure' juxtaposing strength and softness, this film is made in the domestic sphere of my own home, oscillating between clips filmed on super 8 and digitally, bringing to surface the restrictive nature of grieving, being stuck in two timeframes. With fragmented sound recordings, consisting of spontaneously recorded conversation between myself and my mum. Bringing Ungrowing out to a public sphere, shows a personal documentation of a collective human experience. As an act echoing the physical action in the film of de-shelling the beans, exposing a foetal-like visceral matter, this film, depicts snippets of organic moments between mother and daughter, highlighting how my own mother embodies a motherless child.Added on: July 28, 2021
