Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Dutch artist Leopold van de Ven mixes his own materials from scratch, using combinations such as carved hardwood with paint or layered collages. His sculptures reflect his background in architecture and his interest in spatiality, which he expresses in an abstract way. He works intuitively, drawing on a mix of thoughts, photo-based memories, and impressions from the landscape. Materials like wood, papier-mâché, painted and sculpted surfaces, and recycled objects form the basis for two- and three-dimensional works.
