Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

In my practice, I utilize photography and sculpture to examine human’s relationships to their surroundings. My projects are generally characterized as site related, leading to a final result that has responded to a specific place and context, and speaks to a material and visual investigation into ideas and experiences generated from ecologies of lived environments. Often seeking out specific architectural sites I am motivated by the role of glass as a framing device and as a subtle insertion between a viewer and the world, ever so slightly changing how things are perceived. By varying the focal points of my compositions, I blur the formal boundaries and observe the tensions and connections between the built and the natural.

The sequences of photographs are meant to make the viewer aware of their presence at the threshold of the depicted space, and the exhibition site. The sculptural object becomes a middle term in this equation, although it can sometimes depart from its syntactical relationship to the images and become autonomous.
