Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My works explore the intersection of subjectivity and the built environment. In my
site-oriented sculptures, installations, sound works, and drawings I employ tenuous
physical connections and slapstick strategies to prod the perceived authority of
designed space.

Much of the work is informed by relationships between my body and the built
environment. The language of architecture and its means of persuasion upon my body
is of constant interest. The specificity of my outsized (6’7” high 300+ pound) body in
space as a reference in creating environments further complicates/informs the kind of
spaces I am reflecting and creating. I am making things that are human scale, but they
are often a mix between my human scale and various other real and proposed human
scales.

I approach each project differently, prompted by considerations of the site as well
as the various ideas that are to be embodied in the work. These
considerations also determine the material and formal mutations necessary for each
project.
