STATEMENT OF WORK

The repetitive and exaggerated use of ornamentation, a resource traditionally used for decoration and visual filling in an image, and the constant superposition of these patterns, results in the construction of spaces capable of catching the eye, managing to confuse what is a figure with what is background.

In this way, without denying the decorative aspect in the painting, the ornament becomes the protagonist and a fundamental piece in the construction process of the work.  In the same way, the simplicity and ingenuity of the forms and compositions, witnesses of the influence of the American colonial baroque painting, betray a constant search for pictorial solutions capable of articulating their expressive possibilities with themes from the everyday. Just what is seen daily, but exalted by its forms.

Under the premise of copying many times an image, an ornamental motif or an object I seek to create a body of work that presents a distortion and at the same time a certain awkwardness until reaching a totally disconnected result. This sort of reference to mimetic logics in the colonial work will be responsible for determining the order and chaos in the painting. 

The work in my painting has been generated in an honest way where the form and the color, always subordinated to the errors of the matter in the painting, plays the role of praising and taking precarious things or places to another level.
