Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
My paintings deal with an immediate, contemporary environment; aberrations of the everyday that catch our attention. Subjects are disparate yet ubiquitous. A football stand, a bathroom sink, a streetlight, an eraser on my studio table. Places and things that are specific to personal experience, but general enough that they also become enigmatic, open and available. But a consistent motif I return to again and again is the window. Views in and views out. Views that incorporate reflections of the outside world complicating the shadowy interior world of within. The window becomes a natural framing device for painting as well as a source of infinite visual variation. It becomes a way to think clearly about line, colour, composition, edges - a means to break down the essential language of painting. But perhaps most importantly for me, the very normal, mundane experience of seeing in, through and out of windows prevents falling into a cold and dispassionate way of painting, or conversely something overwrought. I am interested in ordinary things, in noticing the changing conditions of the same window across the street. I want the studio to be part of the same world, the same realm of experience - but in pictures.
