Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK
Artist Statement
I believe that our most intimate moments reveal the beautiful imperfection of our humanity. This is the thread that runs through my work. My bronze sculptures explore the boundaries of our common desires to connect with each other. My paintings mine the quirks and wonder of our daily intimate gestures. Everything I create shares accessible emotion and direct portrayals of human vulnerability.
As a filmmaker and sculptor I am attracted to edgy people with a story to tell. All of my artistic endeavors acknowledge the connections between human energies within a social framework fraught with subtle irony and unexpected interruptions of the best laid plans.
I was born in Newark, New Jersey, attended The Pratt Institute New Forms program, and received a full fellowship to complete her MFA at S.U.N.Y. Purchase. Most recently, my new body of paintings have been shown at Andrew Rafacz at NADA nyc, Real Qeer Detroit, Canada gallery, Marque Projects and Mt. Airy Contemporary. My videos and sculptures have been shown nationally and internationally at film festivals, museums, and galleries. My screenings include, The Smithsonian Institute, Aurora Picture Show, the United Nations World Conference, the Islip Art Museum, The Guild Hall Museum, The Parrish Art Museum, Pierogi Gallery, Diverse Works, and CableVision’s 28sec project. I have had grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, the International Film and Television Workshop, CableVision Systems, a New York Foundation for the Arts exhibition grant, and the New York Community Trust. I have had residencies at The Henry Street Settlement’s Abrons Art Center, The Vermont Studio Center, The Cooper Union Summer Residency, and most recently, the Wythe Hotel Film Residency in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her work has been reviewed in local and national publications including The New Yorker Magazine, New York Newsday, Two Coats of Paint, Ocula Publication, the Berkeley Press, Chelsea now, the Southampton Press, the East Hampton Star.
