Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Anaïs Horn’s multidisciplinary practice moves fluidly across media, creating intimate, often site-specific settings. Her work traces the tension between presence and absence, where personal narratives—autobiographical fragments, rites of passage or the biographies of historical (female) figures—evolve into broader reflections on contemporary existence and how memories and (her)story/stories echo through the spectral presence of objects and spaces.
Her images take shape by exploring surfaces and objects, and they frequently unfold into spatial installations and artist‘s books.
Next to personal narratives she is introducing elements of illusion and mystery, trying to situate her work in a space of the in-between that touches upon Jean Baudrillard’s radical thinking, that draws its power—similar to the real image that makes us aware of this "trembling of the world”—from the rejection of reality. Instead of creating transparency, the secret is reintroduced: Making mysterious what is clear, incomprehensible what is comprehensible, returning the world as we got it, incomprehensible.
