Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

When I began making abstract paintings, I was curious about the activities associated with reading and writing so I used words as maps for compositions. I liked that these works, though not clearly decipherable as text, could be said to announce what they represented. Over time I became less interested in text itself and more in the idea of embodied language and gesture. Where I once thought of painting space as the “space of the page,” it’s now the space of thought that I would like to embrace, if thought can be said to occupy space.
