Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

While making, I think of my work as individual pieces, but invariably they accumulate into lumpy-bumpy, sometimes awkward groups.  We perceive context in the way each piece stands on its own and also works as part of a group.

Most of my work is rooted in drawing and collage.  I like the physicality of materials that make up the media -- paint from a limited palette, plaster, the fugitive beauty of detritus.  The process is driven using multiple variations of plaster:  as cast, dip, adhesive and many thin layers of surface built up by hand. Further materials are culled from the ruins, failures and left-overs of earlier work.  The method feeds a process resembling controlled chaos.  I stop working when I can neither add anything else, nor take anything away.  What emerges is provisional and, preferably, something unknown.
