Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Cindy Hill, is an artist based in Montreal (Canada). Her work uses found objects and textiles to examine the relationship between our material world and perceptions of the body. Hill reflects on the history of health and sexuality amongst women, re-contextualizing objects used to treat and care for the body. Engaging with themes of intimacy, care, and desire, she draws from personal experiences to explore the complexities of somatic and feminist discourses.

Hill holds an MFA from the University of Guelph and a BFA in Studio Arts from Concordia University. Recent solo exhibitions include Mirror-Reverse at Pumice Raft in Toronto (Canada) and A bell I never hear at Centre Clark in Montreal (Canada). Recent group exhibitions include I'm too sad to tell you at Pangée in Montreal (Canada), Entanglements at MAMA Projects in New York (NY), and Please be gentle at The plumb in Toronto (Canada). In 2022, she was an artist-in-residence at the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn (NY) through the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Hill is an upcoming artist in residence at Cité des Arts International in Paris (France).
