Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

At its core, my work is a reflection on memory and history, loss and resilience. Over the last decade I have been interested in maps and the stories they tell. Stories of conflict and erasure, of place and absence, of borders and belonging. More recently, that has extended to thinking about place and my relationship to it. The ecosystem I live in, the old growth forest I walk in, the homeland that I am deeply connected to.

My work is composed of layers, fragments and movement. I begin by building surfaces on paper and then shape and layer them. I use woodblocks, watercolor, gouache, ink and a burning tool to make marks and to shape the paper. The process of adding layers of paint and relief prints imbues it with its own history.
