Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Olivia Saporito (b.1998) lives and works in Queens, New York and Vermont. Olivia Saporito creates work that explores the intersection between object and image, aiming to construct the materiality of memory through the mode of lens based sculpture. She is invested in presenting and processing the archive - found photos, slides, and frames, through staged photographs and sculptures made with found objects, "lenses" and furniture. Using these materials to create interactive viewing devices, Saporito intends to remark upon how the rapid proliferation of consumer grade technology effects the way in which we see pictures today, versus in recent collective memory. By giving the viewer parameters to seeing the presented images in her work, she intends to return to the physical processes and displays we once used to view photos.

Saporito’s work has been exhibited at The International Center of Photography, Pamela Salisbury Gallery, Cynthia Reeves Gallery at Mass MoCA, Kunsthaus Kule Gallery, Tête Gallery, The Bennington Museum, Usdan Gallery, 3rd Eye Gallery, and Vox Populi Gallery.
