Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Vivek Sebastian is a Brooklyn-based artist who predominantly works as a painter. Born in Texas but having spent his formative years in India, his work concerns anti-imperialist politics, history and philosophy particularly from the perspective of the Indian Diaspora. He maneuvers viewers to question the potential imperialist origins of their methodologies. His paintings are intended to unravel to the viewer over time as they come across the sourced images in news, social media, or film away from the painting. The work then becomes a renegotiated, decolonized metaphor where the traces of its previous signifiers may be present, but are entirely self-possessed in their agency as new organisms. He is interested in dissident myths, research practices, and histories, Sebastian is a proud member of Teamsters Local 814, a working-class artist who holds himself against bourgeois interpretations of aesthetics.
