Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Peripatetic agility has shaped my artistic identity. Survival in poverty and uncertainty mean no surplus resources for expensive materials. I work with what is available to me, materially and otherwise.

Drawing from my past as a sex worker, informed by extensive self-designed, self-led classical training, but unencumbered by a typical fine-arts background, I mine my own personal archive to approach themes of desire, sexual deviance, and the ‘toxic’ nuclear family.

My work begs the question : 'What is it ‘to raise oneself'? Among the photographic tropes are images of strip club signs, flora and the experience of abuse. What is the status of the nuclear family when it fails in standards of care and safety, or tenders their opposite?
