Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK
My work explores intricate layers of personal symbolism through large-scale, figurative and vibrant compositions on paper using layered oil paint and pastels. My visual language includes recurring motifs—female nudes, self-portraits, skulls, bathers, and oceanic themes—often invoking Greek mythology. These elements express as archetypal forms like monsters and heroines, reflecting the complex dualities that exist within our psyches and our daily lives. Each piece is an exploration of how everyday moments and peripheral details shape our narratives, transforming ordinary scenes into the extraordinary. Through this lens, my work captures the essence of our shared human experience, resonating with the timeless themes of mythology and the immediacy of personal reflection.
I also collect found objects—rocks, shells, feathers, small toys, even teeth—often gifted by loved ones or picked up off the street. Recently, I've begun integrating these into my work. Using grommets, handmade chains, and hand-woven netting, I affix these objects to my paintings, adding physical and symbolic weight.
My creative process is deeply rooted in daily rituals that support self reflection and personal documentation through compulsive note taking; via journaling, drawing and extensive reading. Influences from contemporary writers like bell hooks, Jamie Hood, Frank O’Hara, and Maggie Nelson infuse my work with vignettes of love, grief, and resilience. Epic mythological references serve as a conduit for processing personal narratives, linking my experiences to broader human stories and greater art history.
