Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Tyron Davis’ drawings transport you to the glory days of disco, when rollerskates, hot pants, classic cars, bouncy curls, and crop tops ruled supreme. Fog rolls in, a disco ball spins overhead, shooting stars glimmer and pop, as a cast of glamorous coeds convene on the checkered dance floor for a night of patriotic revelry.
Tyron is a member of YAI Arts, a studio collective supporting artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Upon meeting Tyron, he will likely ask you to declare your favorite decade, and share his – the 1970s – proudly in return. Tyron is an aficionado of the decade and will gladly gush about its most iconic musicians, celebrities, politicians, and lingo.
This passion translates into fantastical scenes sparkling with Americana bravado. Women in a uniform of white bras and high waisted briefs cavort with shaggy haired men in letterman jackets and business suits. His figures, typically endowed with names and personas like “Jonathan The Confident Jock,” “Lisa Jean The Disco Queen,” and “Jamie The Muscular Gymnast,” comprise a fantastical yearbook of collegiate roles, familiar yet slightly askew.
Tyron is also a creator of his own unique typefaces; he tops off each drawing with a title written in a signature font. “Utopia and the Romantic Future” and “Going Back to the 70s Disco College” set the scene for his theatrical stills. The red, white, and blue reveries combine fantasy and nostalgia, yielding all American daydreams that connect past, present, and future.
