Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Throughout my career as an artist, I have held to the belief that ‘art can make a difference’.  Each of my drawings, paintings, fiber works and glass installations is a visual narrative that tells that story.

I have been a frequent speaker about the importance of art and its relationship to how we view the world.  In conjunction with the O’Connor Center for the Rocky Mountain West, I produced a film on the subject and I continually find  that working in public art gives a voice to my story.

In all my artwork, I intertwine the personal and the universal. For example: A recent series of “House” works, resulted in drawings and paintings that involved the importance I personally and universally place on the house as home:  The art pieces speak to my own individual loss of a family home, and the recent worldwide, politically charged loss of house as home through war.

The environmental responsibility each of us has toward the planet is also evident in my art.  The placement of  man and nature, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in conflict is a strong statement throughout.  I have cut and patched paintings and sewn broken pieces together, all indicative of our erratic nature when it comes to world harmony. My work is a constant effort in the search to establish order out of chaos.

Man and nature, politics and personal vision, conflict and harmony are issues my work tries to resolve for the viewer as well as for me.
