The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK

Spanning painting, sculpture, collage, and text Grant Foster uses irreverence to navigate the dogmatic traditions of the past, whilst questioning the present sacrosanctity of reason. Foster’s work emerges as a nuanced dialogue between the past, present and an imagined future. Employing the ideology of collage to circumnavigate systems of logic, he is aligned to the notion of associative flow, where the experience of walking down a street could be understood as a sensory cut-up mediated by chance.

Within the studio, Foster engineers an environment where pluralistic connections are made – a dynamic interplay of influences ranging from children’s book illustrations to tabloid news photography. The intentional defiance of rational systems, like cause and effect, becomes a process to dismantle preconceived mechanisms of control. Through the manner of free association, Foster’s paintings are analogue contact points, inviting viewers into a multi-dimensional and often irreverent exploration of the world.
