Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My body of work focuses on the overlooked inanimate objects we live alongside. While my practice feels closely related to people, my pieces feel neglected or discarded. I draw inspiration from old cast iron radiators, used shirts, and the pipes in our walls. These familiar symbols are used as starting points to create new compositions and installations, complicating our associations with everyday domestic objects. My work explores the emotional quality of these abandoned inanimates- how they grow, decay, and interact with a space over time.

Rather than using traditional mold making techniques, I pour or paint material directly into or onto found objects. This process turns these objects into molds themselves, capturing their vacancies and sculptural frameworks. My finished sculptures have seams, cracks, and irregularities which stand in contrast to the mass produced counterparts they are made from. Some sculptures look rotten and sag to the floor, while some appear fossilized and preserved on paper. These exaggerated forms personify these forgotten objects.
