The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK
My paintings combine autobiographical imagery with surreal, hybrid figures that emerge from a sense of darkness rooted in childhood isolation. This void has become the foundation of my practice—a starting point from which I construct liminal interiors and landscapes where hybrid animals and objects act as avatars of memory, projection, and belonging.
Anthropomorphism has been an instinctive way for me to cope with loneliness, projecting human qualities onto animals that become companions in navigating shifting identities. Recurring motifs of chimeric creatures challenge binary thinking and reflect my interest in states of superposition, where multiple possibilities exist simultaneously until observed.
These spaces and figures echo my experience of displacement and hybridity: growing up Chinese-Turkish in Turkey and later immigrating to the U.S., I learned to live between cultural, personal, and imagined worlds. This in-between state connects to my interest in the convergence of quantum physics and mysticism, both of which propose ways of understanding uncertainty and reality. Through painting, I translate these questions into layered narratives where personal history, memory, and myth intersect, opening spaces for multiple realities to coexist.
