Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My work responds to place through metaphors of disorientation and the malleability of memory. Central themes include the limits of language, the physiological relation between site and sight, and desire and loss. I position images and text to engage with divergent histories, dislocating perception through the form of the book, systems of knowledge, psychology, and mixed-race identity. This approach to rupturing one's vision underpins how I work across media to puncture a sense of concrete time and space—both cognitive and embodied. Materially, I work between digital and analog approaches in printmaking, lens-based media, writing, artist books, and installation.

Currently, 'Stratagems (Orange County)' is the focus of my practice, responding to the relationship between home, place, and belonging as a multimedia autoethnography. 'Stratagems' considers Orange County, California's history of landholdings, subdivisions, conservatism, and underrepresented narratives through my lens as a mixed-race Chicana and a transracial adoptee. My interest in how identity and history are constructed is directly informed by the lack of clarity my lived experience contains: a perennial dislocation. This ongoing investigation connects how location and belonging shape collective consciousness and social imaginaries.
