Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

Rachelle Reichert

STATEMENT OF WORK

Rachelle Reichert works in a variety of media to explore landscapes permanently altered by climate change and industrialization. Her artworks focus on sites of specific extracted materials: salt, clay, lithium, graphite. These materials are interpreted through drawings, photographs, sculptures and mixed-media artworks that focus on materials found at the site.

Reichert tracks the sites of her material's origins with earth observation satellite imagery to question how nature is composed in images and then circulated to a public. She is interested in how algorithmic visions and tracking natural systems shape understanding of the natural world. Artworks embody multi-scale complexities of observing the nature by human and machine, and the emotional connections between the two.
