Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. STATEMENT OF WORK
My recent 'Shadows Out Back' series of paintings explore perspectives of mundane back yards. The figurative narratives depict digestion of human nature through a lens of parenthood in semi-private metropolitan space. My particular focus on the detritus of childhood play, reflects the desire and determined development of backyard overgrowth of weeds, shrubs, and trees that strangely grow from lurking in shadows yet seeking auspicious light. The cascading shadows create divisions of space within my compositions that also allude to my ongoing curiosity in the semiotics of coat of arms.
My practice has developed from exploring perspectives of the human condition through displaced marks in materials of habitual routine. I’m making paintings, transferred prints, collages and installations that combine amalgamated remnants of carpet and shoe soles to re-contextualize paintings’ canonized influence from nomadic tapestries. My work plays with notions of interior and exterior forces uniting to celebrate the transformation of pictorial space.
