Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Using a mosaic-like process, my current body of work combines figuration and working-class urban environments to explore themes of intimacy, alienation, and public life in modern day New York City. Low-income communities are constantly threatened with change and gentrification, this serves as a motivation within my work to capture what feels like a fleeting moment in time. Although I seek to capture everyday life, my street scenes and figures are highly stylized to inject an otherworldliness into my imagery. Featured in my paintings are architectural elements- typical of residential communities- that are meant to protect, separate, and surveille, such as streetlights, fences, windows, doorbells, etc. I am interested in how tilework relates to urban architectural aesthetics, whether that be in mimicking the bricks of a building or public artworks found throughout the New York City subway system. Mosaicking, painting, and fabric art coalesce into the objects I’m “assembling”, and reflect a desire to expand upon established materials and techniques.
