Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

With a semi-scientific approach, I examine connections between the body, industrial infrastructure and everyday objects to understand material and technological changes around me. I work with assemblage, sculpture and photograms created in the darkroom, and the choice of materials and objects is central to the understanding of my work.

I like to think that my works sit somewhere between subject and object, so they often refer to the abject: That which is repulsive, difficult to define and relate to, but still close enough to disrupt our understanding of ourselves. I link this to processes of change and liminal conditions, and words such as transaction, transport and transformation are central to the choice of themes and elements.

My work has, among other things, referred to radio systems, airport scanners and other transitional spaces such as drains, valves and pipes. I work with the potential of these places to distort the meaning and function of objects and bodies, and how we relate to them.
