Artist Registry
The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK
Polly Montes (b. Los Angeles 1991), lives and works in East Harlem, New York. Her abstract and gestural paintings present a rhythmic and lyrical body of work. Compositions of layered line and colors reveal echoes of the expressive self, physical presence in time, and ambiguous memories. The paintings, which often evolve from small sketchbook drawings, are studies of abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time and space. Her current body of work is highly reflective of a contemporary urban life, along with an approach to understand her own identity through childhood memories, and the personal memory bank she carries with her.
