Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

Closer to nature in their daily lives, human cultures of the past had an intuitive understanding of their unity with all of earth's organisms.  My work is inspired by the interconnectedness of our biological lives to all of nature.  In this era of climate warming, rising oceans, and biodiversity extinctions, my intention is to create visually poetic narratives that highlight and honor our embeddedness within the natural world.

Through intuitively recombining and assembling images from photo negatives that I have made, either 4X5 inch large format or  camera-less negatives, into new photographic surfaces in the dark room, I seek to explore these vital connections between ourselves and the fauna and flora of our world.

Each of the negatives I make are exposed using palladium with the contact printing method in sunlight onto a translucent paper, whose sensual, skin-like texture reminds me of the membranes that we share with all animate beings.

Assembling multiple processes and materials in a single final work, I often layer my photographic negatives to make montages, and add pearl iridescent watercolor paint or other hand drawn markings atop the surfaces.
