Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My work is made through a process of building each painting’s surface and breaking it down continually until a density and haptic quality is found. Erosion between each painted layer leaves a mesh-like mark where previous images are brought forth. Figures and structures operate as models within each painting—containers wherein the process of accumulation and erasure occurs. Less concerned with a fixed or shared narrative, image becomes a form of concealment, fastened to a shifting surface. Subjects such as churches, singers, biblical animals or new cars hone in on spaces and figures where devotion, delusion, and faith coincide. The paintings are made over and over on top of themselves, repetition becomes a form of simultaneous construction and dissolution. The resulting marks are both additive painting strokes and scratches and recesses on the paintings’ surface. My paintings operate within a temporal space beyond truth or permanence as they come together to be continually pulled apart.
