Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

I make sculpture with materials relative to jobs, the inflected psychological state they incur, and alleviation following labor. I amend, collate, model, and carve these materials until they become sculpture. The literary device, metonym, is my barometer for pursuing a sculpture. Each element of my work, and the specific union within the assemblage, points to associated social relations.

In doing so, I am preoccupied with internalized economy—conditions delt from the top of our societal structure and absorbed into one’s character. Besides their interiority, the sculptures are stoic in presentation, establishing a concise economy of display. Alternatively melancholy and mirth occasionally are employed to enact the whole spectrum of embodied labor. All together my intention is to unravel the worker from their reified labor.
