Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My artwork explores themes of healing and regeneration, which integrate personal mythology and symbols, that reference the natural world and ritual art. I create my drawings and paintings intuitively, beginning with loose marks that build into intricate patterns and textures. Through the process of repeated handling and layering, my work considers the transformative capacity of mark making.

This series of ink & watercolor drawings is inspired by my fascination with the Tree of Life—a symbol that appears throughout many cultures since ancient times—and a sense of wonder for the plant kingdom. From the social network of trees in the forest, to the process of synthesizing food from light energy through photosynthesis, to the filtration abilities of mangrove root systems, vegetation has an incredible capacity for reciprocity, cooperation, resilience, and regeneration. Imagine the world with plant eyes.
