Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My focus is on searching for/being on "the right path", a time when you realize that you have actually stumbled into your truly correct future. This is an idea gleaned from E. B. White's book "The Once and Future King" when the realization that you have stumbled into where you should be in the future really resonated with me.

To get there, I like to juxtapose contradictory elements in my work: combining straight lines with curves on tangents; mathematics with absurdity; randomness with order; and making solid surfaces that seem to undulate and change. Though my work is controlled, it is unmistakably drawn by a human hand. In all my work the light-drenched, joyful curves burst outward with exuberant color resulting in optimistic and transformative experiences.

In my work (and in life!) I obsess over three kinds of passages: time flowing by; a concern for being on the right path and wanting to leave a mark that proves that I was here. Through the use of line, repetition, math tangent curves and unexpected color combinations and employing all sorts of opposites in my “wondrous procession series” of work, I invite all viewers to march alongside me in my parade... toward transcendence.
