Artist Registry

The White Columns Curated Artist Registry is an online platform for emerging and under-recognized artists to share images and information about their respective practices. The Registry seeks to create a context for artists who have yet to benefit from wider critical, curatorial or commercial support. To be eligible, artists cannot be affiliated with a commercial gallery in New York City.

STATEMENT OF WORK

My practice is concerned with memory and attention. I'm interested in painting as a speculative narrative space, and for its ability to hold multiple temporalities together—how it can reframe how we look at or engage with a particular object or space. Recent work has focused on the spatial language of the early interent, as shaped by counterculture in the Bay Area. Through painting, I looked to ground this language back in the material world, and to work through the ways that these seemingly separate spheres (hippies v. tech, San Francisco v. cyberspace) inscribed themselves in and on one another. Looking at traces of language, and the marks of experience left on objects, spaces, and people is a running theme in my work. I am curious about how attending to an object, via the act of painting, might reveal some of its various lives and histories, as well as its potential futures.
